Hashira are known as the most powerful of the Demon Slayer Corps, and their abilities should never be underestimated. Each Hashira has their own fighting style that aids them in the battle against demons and slaying demons is really hard work not just for any demon slayer but even the Hashira themselves. So far, only three Hashira have shown a fraction of their power, with more of their power to come in the next season of Demon Slayer.
Each Hashira member has a unique fighting style that determines their moniker and may hold special meaning, though one Hashira reigns above all of them. They use their fighting style in more effective methods than the other eight. But that doesn’t mean fans should underestimate the other Hashira’s abilities.
9. Obanai Iguro
Although not much is known about Obanai’s abilities, his Hashira status is proof of his strength. His Serpent Breathing is an original breathing style he has mastered and derived from Water Breathing. His movements are quick and agile like a snake, so it’s believed that he can imitate other snake-like characteristics.
Obanai has the most strength and endurance out of the nine Hashira, but he’s got more tricks up his sleeves that are sure to manifest in Demon Slayer‘s second season.
8. Shinobu Kocho
Though she’s not as physically strong as her fellow Hashira, Shinobu’s abilities are still dangerous. Her vast knowledge in medicine and poison makes her a great asset to the Demon Slayer Corps. The wisteria poison saturates her entire body, both inside and out, making her a demon’s worst nightmare. The poison inside her is seven-hundred times deadlier than regular wisteria flowers, making it easier to weaken or even kill a demon. She and the other Butterfly House assistants are responsible for healing and rehabilitating injured Demon Slayers.
Shinobu’s also the fastest out of the Hashira. As the Insect Hashira, her speed imitates a flying insect, makes up for her lack of physical strength, and lets her evade her opponents with ease.
7. Gyomei Himejima
Despite his blindness, Gyomei has heightened his other senses, particularly his hearing. It’s not as refined as Tengen’s, but it gives him the upper hand in a battle.
As the Stone Hashira, his large body can take immense damage while not completely taking him out of the fight. During his training, Gyomei’s body doesn’t sustain the same amount of damage as others. Thanks to his religious training, his focus keeps him on the task at hand and also allows him to increase his strength.
6. Muichiro Tokito
As a child prodigy, Muichiro can easily keep up with his colleagues. It’s believed that his Mist Breathing is self-taught, and he’s created an entirely new technique. Also, his sensory perception allows him to differentiate between demon and human auras.
Muichiro’s baggy clothes help him with deception. His long sleeves and the mist allow him to hide, keeping an enemy guessing his next move. His signature move allows him to control his superhuman speed, ranging from extremely slow to a blinding quickness that is faster than a demon’s eye can follow.
5. Mitsuri Kanroji
Although she’s not as strong as Kyojuro, Mitsuri is no pushover. She learned everything there is to know about Fire Breathing and successfully adapted the style to suit her physical abilities. Instead of fire, Mitsuri channels the passionate emotions of love into her attacks.
Mitsuri possesses a unique muscle composition despite her slender form, and it’s about eight times denser than the average human. She can control her body at will as well as bend her sword to form a whip. Her flexibility improves her range and agility in her Love Breathing.
4. Kyojuro Rengoku
Those who’ve watched the Demon Slayer movie know just how formidable Kyojuro is in battle. As the fourth-strongest out of the Demon Slayers, his skills even impress one of the Upper-Rank demons, Akaza, who is desperate to recruit him.
His training came from his father, Shinjuro, who passed down generations of battle tactics from former Flame Hashira. Along with Fire Breathing and excellent swordsmanship, Kyojuro learns about Total Concentration Breathing, a technique that allows the user to utilize their breathing to stop blood loss.
Kyojuro also possesses a will that’s as strong and unwavering as his physical endurance. He rarely shows signs of pain or discomfort, allowing him to push forward in battle despite having multiple serious injuries. Even in death, his unshakeable will continues to have a significant impact on Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke.
3. Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi’s hatred for demons is in a class on its own. It’s almost frightening to see how far he’s willing to go to kill them. His Wind Breathing and general fighting style are suitable for long-range offensive attacks. It’s similar to Inosuke’s Beast Breathing and both rely on their heightened sense of touch. On top of his Wind Breathing, Sanemi is adaptable at using various weapons. He’s resourceful and quick in his thinking, able to use whatever’s near him as a weapon.
Sanemi can also control his muscle’s density, similar to Mitsuri’s ability. He can manipulate his muscles to close wounds and prevent further damage to his body.
2. Tengen Uzui
Tengen’s experience as a ninja is quite effective in his Demon Slayer work. His harsh ninja training improves his stamina, physical strength, and tolerance for pain and poison. In addition, Tengen has a heightened sense of hearing. His hearing allows him to detect an opponent’s movement by breaking down and analyzing them into sounds and rhythmical patterns.
In addition, Tengen’s intellect is second to none. A ninja is required to analyze their objectives and circumstances and make decisions in quick succession. He’s also known to move as fast as he thinks and can keep up with a demon’s speed. Tengen is the perfect addition to anyone’s team for both defense and offense.
1. Giyu Tomioka
Giyu is considered the strongest Hashira out of the nine, praised for his exceptional swordsmanship and Water Breathing skills.
The Water Breathing Style is the most common and easiest to learn amongst Demon Slayers, but very few have mastered all ten of its forms. Like his former teacher, Urokodaki, Giyu has mastered all ten and eventually creates the eleventh form.
